Busted

In College Basketball on February 20, 2011 at 1:50 am

The Bears defense was non-existent against the Crusaders

The Valparaiso Crusaders opened the game with an 8-2 run. The Bears would only get within 9 points for about 30 seconds as Valpo nationally embarrassed the MSU Bears, with a final score of 80-67.

This isn’t the same Bears team we’ve seen all season. This was a team of look-a-likes playing dress-up.

Bears Defense Shines

In College Basketball on February 16, 2011 at 1:26 am

I’ve ranted, I’ve redundantly elaborated, and I’ve ridiculously commented, time and time again on how the Bears must fix their penetrable defense. And they sure fixed it Tuesday night. The Bears defense only allowed the Drake Bulldogs to shoot less than 35% en route to a 60-51 home victory at JQH Arena.

Ladies and Gentleman of Springfield,

I give you: the Missouri State Bears’ Defense.

Jermaine Mallett and the Bears D are looking sharp.

-Whistles, yelps, and thunderous applause-

(Wait, what? Yelps?)

(Never mind.)

Bears Climb Back To First Place

In College Basketball on February 10, 2011 at 2:01 am

The MSU Bears overcame a sloppy first half effort and beat the Bradley Braves 77-69 Wednesday night at JQH Arena. Forward Kyle Weems tied his season high 27 points as the Bears drained 13 shots beyond the arc shooting 48.9% from the field — their best in seven games. The Bears now share the first place bragging rights in the Valley with Wichita State.

Weems led the Bears in scoring with 27 points.

Bears Lose Again, Fall To Second Place

In College Basketball on February 3, 2011 at 2:10 am

The Bears have lost three of the last five games.

The Basketball Bears are probably back in blizzard-ravaged Springfield by now. They’ll realize they don’t have class, hit the sack, and head to practice the next morning. According to Adam Leonard’s twitter account, the shooting guard tweeted: “These 3 losses were flukes! We will prove it. If you jumped off our wagon, deuces. But if your still with us… Watch what happens next.”

Adam, we’re watching and waiting.

Bears Unable To Finish Panthers

In College Basketball on January 31, 2011 at 1:22 am

The University of Northern Iowa Panthers avenged their home court loss Sunday night, and beat the Bears in front of close to 10,000 fans at JQH Arena. ‘The defending Valley champs shut down the Bears in the second half, allowing MSU to shoot just 20% from the field. The loss now gives the Bears a 17-4 record and snaps a 19-game winning streak.

Bears Thriving On Close Games

In College Basketball on January 26, 2011 at 5:12 pm

Weems and the Bears are 9-1 in the MVC

The Bears took care of an over-achieving Drake team Tuesday night as all starters reached double digit scoring. It wasn’t easy. It didn’t look easy. In fact, I was uneasy just watching the game. This is the best start of any Bears basketball squad since the 1967-68 Div. II team, but if they want to make a historic run at the NCAA tournament, the Bears need some better play from their  bench.

Bears Beat

In College Basketball on January 20, 2011 at 8:21 pm

The MSU Bears fought off  the contender, the Indiana State Sycamores, until ISU guard Jake Kelly slashed through the heart of the Bear defense to tie the game. Only if that was the end: MSU forward Kyle Weems fouled Kelly. The replay confirmed the officials’ call on the court and Kelly went on to sink the winning free throw.

The Foul

Here’s the cut and dry:

Lucas Treat: Why I’m watching the NBA draft instead of playing Madden

In College Basketball, Columns, NBA on June 24, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Hi, my name is Lucas Treat and I’m an addict (Hiiiiiiiiii, Luke). Madden. It consumes to the point where in my free time I tend to think about how my players are progressing and which hot shot college prospect is going to lead my team to the Super Bowl. I even play Madden with a notebook and scribble game notes, tendencies, roster updates… (I don’t know how I have a girlfriend, to be honest.)
